To begin; both for the family record and my own knowledge, i will document what items i am in possession of to proceed with. Whilst not the most exciting first post it may prove to be a list i refer back to moving forward as my understanding of each document becomes clearer and the relevance to the greater story reveals itself. The list below is in no particular order and provides limited detail at this time as i plan to visit each in greater detail as and when my research dictates:
- 12 x The Prisoner Of War Magazine Vol 3 No's 26 to 38.
- 10 x Photos of the Royal Warks with additional page featuring a brief history of.
- 3 x Dog tags on single metal ring.
- 1 x Soldiers service pay book.
- 9 x Various death/funeral documents.
- 1 x Good luck postcard.
- 2 x Medal receipts.
- 1 x Prisoner of war confirmation letter.
- 1 x Discharge from service notice.
- 3 x Employment notices.
- 9 x Photos (2 x Family/Friends, 2 x Soldiers, 5 x Army/POW).
- 6 x Red cross letters.
- 1 x Missing in action letter.
- 2 x POW update letters.
- 1 x Army enlistment form.
- 1 x War key events hand written list.
- 2 x Marriage certificates.
- 4 x Death Certificates.
- 3 x Birth Certificates.
Please note the above descriptions are based on initial assessments of the items and may prove to be inaccurate as my research into each continues. Furthermore a number of the items appear and may prove to be unrelated to the story of my Grandad but were stored with the documents so will be catalogued accordingly.
Note: I have now added a document index to the main site menu. This is the same as the above list but will include notes directing you to which blogs reference each item to help navigation as the site grows.
